What you see at first glance is a monogram. What it carries is ancient.

The Staurogram — Tau-Rho

The P and T together form the Staurogram — one of the earliest surviving images of Jesus on the cross in all of recorded history, appearing in Christian manuscripts dating to the 2nd century AD.

The Tau is the T-shaped cross. The Rho — written in Greek as our letter P — placed upon it forms the shape of a figure on the cross. Ancient scribes embedded this mark directly into Scripture. In Bodmer Papyrus 75, the Staurogram appears in Luke 14:27:

“Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”
